Orthopaedic surgeon Scott Thomas Arthur, M.D., has joined the physicians at The Bone & Joint Clinic as a sports medicine specialist.
Arthur relocated from the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, where he completed a sports medicine fellowship with James Andrews, a nationally renowned orthopaedic surgeon.
Arthur completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Tennessee/Campbell Clinic in Memphis, and his transitional surgical internship at Methodist Memorial Hospital in Memphis. He received his medical degree from the University of Tennessee, Memphis, and his bachelor of science degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he graduated summa cum laude.
Arthur has been an assistant team physician and team physician for numerous sports teams, including Tarrant High School, West Alabama University and the University of Alabama. He also served as event physician for the 2004 Conference USA Soccer Tournament and the 2006 SEC Baseball Tournament, and as spring training physician for the Toronto Blue Jays and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Currently he is team physician for Brentwood High School.
The opportunity to work with The Bone & Joint Clinic’s physicians, several of whom also were trained at Campbell Clinic, was a major factor in Arthur’s decision to move to Franklin.
"The dedication of the staff and quality of patient care at The Bone & Joint Clinic fit well with the type of practice I want to establish,” Arthur said.
"The sports medicine division of the clinic is growing at such a rapid pace and drawing from such a large geographic area that we are adding specialty-trained physicians every year,” said Dr. Craig Ferrell, chairman of The Bone & Joint Clinic.
“We are excited to have someone of Dr. Arthur’s caliber join our sports medicine team,” he added.
Arthur grew up in Cleveland, Tennessee, and graduated from Cleveland High School. His grandfather was a surgeon, which helped spark Arthur’s interest in medicine at an early age.
In his spare time, he enjoys golf, basketball, duck hunting, skeet shoot, football and skiing. Arthur and his wife, Sally, have a two-year-old daughter named Jamison.
